Pinwright’s Progress
2012
Video, mixed media installation
Pinwright’s Progress was the world’s first sitcom, produced during the post-war period of austerity. There is no record of the programme other than a couple of photographs and some scripts in the BBC archive. I attempted a reworking of Pinwright’s Progress, asking the actors to make the programme’s non-existence and incomprehensibility form a subtext for their interpretation of the script. The production employs a visual language more typically associated with drama. This video formed part of an installation, along with text, audiovisual documentary and interview material, and maquettes of props.
